Creating such a product has proven to be a daunting task, an elusive goal that many have challenged, and few, very few, have achieved. While most audiophiles are willing to tolerate virtually any monolith, however hideous it may be, the domestic cohabitant may not be quite so understanding. Therein lies the rub, a dilemma that audiophiles are sure to face at some point in their exploration of this hobby. Most will agree, finding a speaker to please both sets of eyes and ears is the single most vexing problem we encounter. As you have likely found, concessions are frequently made to appease the desired aesthetic, which often limit the sonic potential of the system. What are we to do? For many the problem has been solved. Feast yours eyes on the stunningly beautiful lines of the Reality 3D speaker from Denmark. Then (and here’s the good part), let yourself be whisked away to audio nirvana on the even more lovely sonic emanations. Far more than a pretty box, the Reality 3D speakers bring together a host of the highest quality parts and drop-dead gorgeous looks in masterful amalgam of art and science. REALITY 3D and REALITY S1 Loudspeakers The diffrence between the REALITY 3D and REALITY S1 loudspeakers is the crossover. An advanced crossover design is used in the REALITY 3D to obtain low crossover point and flat impedance in the bass area. A minimalist crossover design is used in the REALITY S1 and is therefore cheaper to manufacturer. REALITY 3D is a reference loudspeaker in the audiophile high-end class which truly reflect the reality of recorded sound. REALITY 3D has a very open soundstage while keeping the precision of the voices and the instruments. The unique design sets a new aesthetic standard for loudspeakers. REALITY 3D is a loudspeaker full of new innovative engineering and has been design patented in several countries. The cabinet of REALITY 3D is one of our technology platforms. REALITY 3D is may be the best loudspeaker in the world to this price. Even loudspeakers which are extreme much more expensive than the REALITY 3D can not perform the same. The Form Follows Function The geometrical form of the REALITY 3D cabinet is a tetrahedron. It is not only unique, because of its aesthetic values, but it is full of acoustical advantages. A tetrahedron is an equilateral pyramid; it has only three sides and a triangle bottom, not four sides and a square bottom as a pyramid. As no standing waves occur in a tetrahedron it is a cabinet without preferences to resonance-frequencies. Inside the cabinet acoustic waves can never amplify one another in phase and are reflected by the inside walls under ever-changing angles. By listening briefly it quickly becomes apparent that it is not a conventional cabinet like for example a tube, pipe, or square box. A tube box or curved box has one vertical standing wave and both have the horizontal organ pipe tone. A square box has one vertical standing wave and two horizontal standing waves. REALITY 3D is free of the disadvantages, free of standing waves and free of the organ pipe tones. The 7.5 degree angled cabinet, in combination with the natural acoustic behavior of the driver units, ensures phase linear radiation (acoustic time-alignment of the driver units). This means there is no time difference of the sound coming from the bass unit and the tweeter unit. This kind of timing error is never corrected in loudspeakers, where the baffle is mounted vertical. Acoustical time-alignment is very important for the sound quality, much more than most people do believe. The very slim profile of asymmetrical cabinet also helps to avoid diffractions and maximizes sound spreading. Further, the slim form ensures a very stiff cabinet. The tweeter is sealed in its own non-resonant chamber (NRC) and is isolated from the woofer. The cabinet is made of sound absorbing MDF-plates, which is the best material to loudspeaker boxes. All cabinets are manufactured by CNC-machines (robots) and are therefore 100% equal. It is one of the very few loudspeakers in the world without a cloth-frame to destroy the sound, however it is still covered with very thin acoustic cloth on all three sides. It is not possible to measure or hear any difference with or without loudspeaker cloth! Speaker Placement Given REALITY 3Ds unique shape, and the way it interacts with the room, it has no limits in placement. The reflex port is located at the front side. Bi-wire terminals: Yes An OTL designer did write: A low power OTL will be about 15 watts into 8 ohms. Power will increase to 25 watts into 16 ohms. At 4 ohms the power will be 7 to 10 watts. OTL and tube power amplifiers best friend. REALITY HS (High Sensitivity) has been special developed to support OTL and tube power amplifiers (winther period 2000 - 2001). REALITY HS has a high sensitivity and a very high impedance. 10 watt single-ended tube amplifier or a 10 watt OTL amplifier is enough to power this loudspeaker and drive it to high listening levels. Listening tests have verified the musicality and speed of this loudspeaker. The REALITY HS has a smooth, wide and open three-dimensional soundstage. The listener can really feel the depth in the music. The bass becomes better when using a tube amplifier to power the REALITY HS loudspeaker than a Solid State Amplifier. The answer it the very high impedance in the bass area, which is minimum 16 ohm, and therefore the tube amplifier only have to deliver a small current to drive the bass. Several tube amplifiers have auditable distortion when using when using 4 or 8 ohms loudspeakers. The audible distortion will be reduced when using the 16 ohm REALITY HS loudspeaker. REALITY HS can be combined with the sub-modules, if the SUB-modules are powered by an external Solid State amplifier or the build-in ICEpower amplifiers. As many know OTL and tube amplifiers do like loudspeakers with a high impedance and a high sensitivity. Tube amplifiers will love the REALITY HS while a Solid State amplifier or the build-in ICEpower amplifiers can be left to power the SUB-modules. The cabinet of the REALITY HS loudspeaker is the same as the REALITY 3D loudspeaker (the technology platform) and therefore having the same acoustical features as the REALITY 3D cabinet. The PHL 1240 bass unit from France is an expensive handcrafted precision build driver normally only used in professional loudspeakers used in recording studios. The sensitivity of this unit is 92dB and the impedance is 16 ohm. It has phase plug too. The sweet sounding tweeter: It is of course a superb tweeter from Scan Speak. It do match the high sensitivity and the impedance of the bass unit. It is a wide dispersion design and therefore no horn sound. It is an expensive and very good tweeter used in many high-end designs. The printed circuit boards of the REALITY 3D crossover are used in the REALITY HS loudspeaker. The main difference of the two crossovers are value of the components, because the crossover frequency and the impedance are different. The high quality components have a very small loss to keep the sensitivity of the units as high as possible. Acoustical Linkwitz Riley slopes ensure the acoustical phase is very precise. The crossover frequency is 1500Hz, which is a perfect point. The resonance frequency of the tweeter is completely removed and therefore the REALITY HS has a very LOW acoustical distortion. This will broaden the low frequency performance of the system, increase volume capability and dynamics, while aiding reproduction in very large rooms. The REALITY 3D system stacks directly on the REALITY SUB-module, creating a harmonious and attractive grouping. A top plate without connectors can also be mounted. The REALITY SUB-module can therefore be used in combination with all other brands of loudspeakers, active loudspeakers too. When REALITY 3D and the REALITY SUB-module are combined the loudspeaker becomes a true 3-way loudspeaker. REALITY 3D stand-alone to the left and REALITY 3D with the REALITY SUB-module to the right. Reducing standing waves of the listening room Listening position Since the REALITY SUB-module can be rotated to play in three different positions each, optimizing bass performance for the particular environment is a snap. Utilizing this superb feature, standing waves of the listening room can be reduced. REALITY 3D with REALITY SUB-modules are therefore much easier to integrate in very different rooms than all other loudspeakers. The 3 x 3 = 9 different fixed positions are shown in the listening room example. This principle allows the level of the bass to be changed up to +-10dB. Note: Locating the port and woofer low in the REALITY SUB, close to the floor, has reduced floor reflections. REALITY 3D w/ SUB SPECIFICATION System 32 liter, true 3 way reflex. The connectors have a very long life time which is longer than the most audiophile connectors. (ICEpower® is able to produce up to 1000VA, if the two hot balanced outputs are short circuit. The input is professional XLR connectors with a housing made of a diecast zinc with gold-plated TF contacts and meets the UL94V-0 requirements. All connectors are hidden in a cave positioned on the rear of the REALITY SA amplifier. All the wires can be routed through a hole in the bottom or through a hole in each side. That means you can do the cables and connectors "invisible". When the amplifier is positioned below the REALITY speakers the SPEAKON connector and wire can be routed through a round hole in the top of the REALITY SA amplifier. That means the wire to the REALITY speaker is "invisible" while being very easy to connect too. Note: It is very easy to connect the main power cable and the input/output connectors to the REALITY SA amplifier because of the SPEAKON connectors. The inputs to the REALITY SA amplifier are balanced XLR input. To be able to support common pre-amplifiers or surround processors without balanced XLR output, cables (5 feet, 15 feet or 30 feet) to convert from balanced XLR input to RCA phono input can be ordered. Balanced XLR - XLR cables can be ordered too, both types to a very affordable price (much cheaper than you see elsewhere). External high-quality wiring to the loudspeakers can be delivered to a very affordable price too. 2 x 2.5mm2 core cables or 4 x 2.5mm2 core cables with SPEAKON connectors should be used. If for example two REALITY SA stereo amplifiers are used to bi-amp (passive or active) a pair of loudspeakers it is only necessary with one cable to each speaker. This is one of the advantages when using SPEAKON - there are four cores inside each cable and while only using one of the two output connectors from the REALITY SA amplifier. You can of course use other types of cables; only the SPEAKON connectors are necessary. The main power cable is like the types used to a Personal Computer. Because the main power connector is different from country to country you have to go and buy this US$5 cable yourself. Design and finish The REALITY SA switching amplifier is designed as a symmetric triangle. The triangle cabinet is 15" - 15" - 15" (38cm - 38cm - 38cm) and 4" (10cm) in height. The design of the REALITY SA amplifier matches the REALITY speakers, while being able to power other brand of loudspeakers too. If anyone is interested in using the REALITY SA amplifier we are able to deliver the amplifier in a 19" standard rack cabinet (the triangle REALITY SA amplifier is inserted in an extra cabinet) - pay the extra costs. In case of using the SUB-modules you can have the amplifiers behind the speakers. This is the digital reality 1) No other amplifier can play the bass like the REALITY SA amplifier. 2) Neither can any other amplifier control the tweeter like the REALITY SA amplifier, when using active bi-amping!
