FAQ

A customer would like to see the REALITY S measurement whitepater: Click here to read it.

Since its face-plate is the same size as the Revelator, why do you refer to it as the 9700? It seems that it has more in common with the 9900 than the 9700. The only difference between it and the 9900 is the shape and the materials on the face plate.
My answer: Because it is a 9700 with a different front plate to avoid diffractions.

How's the Active Speaker coming? I had the opportunity to listen to the ICE500 modules and found them to be outstanding, better than any analog amp I have heard with the possible exception of a $9,000 model !
My answer: The active speakers are ready very soon, but are delayed because of other activities. I have a surprice about the amplifier cabinet and the existing speakers too, but can't tell more now other than the ICEpower can be used to the REALITY 3D !
True about the sound. It is the best amplifier I have ever tried, when they are configured correct. The bass and tweeter should have its own amplifier.

Someone did ask about the low crossover point in the REALITY 3D crossover:
The advantages of the low crossover point:
1. The distortion is reduced as much as possible, even on VERY HIGH volume's, because the tweeter unit has less distortion than a bass unit, but only if it is handled correct. I am using 4. order acoustic Linkwitz-Riley slopes to the tweeter and an extra 500Hz tweeter resonance damping filter. This means the 500Hz of the tweeter resonance is dampened approx. 70dB. The resonance is the source to distortion from a tweeter and when it is removed the acoustical distortion is further reduced.
2. You have 20cm (8") between your ears = equal to = the wavelength is the same as 1.5kHz, which fit the natural crossover point of the ear position. This means you can't hear the crossover point, because the brain has learned to correct this limit. Also, the ear is changing from being frequency dominant on 1.5kHz to be transient dominant above.
Yes, when comparing all other speakers with a crossover frequency higher than 1.5kHz I can hear it, even when the units are 100% in acoustical phase.
Scan Speak recommend 2. order 2.8kHz to their 9700 tweeter. When I go one octave below (which is 1.4kHz), and using a 4. order filter the resonance frequency of the tweeter will be dampened the same as when using 2. order 2.8kHz crossover. Therefore it is not a problem to crossover do the low crossover point - the tweeter will never be damaged. The resonance frequency is the main source to acoustical distortion and dampened even more by an extra filter.

Someone did ask about the Mundorf Capacitors.
I am using the MCAP, the MKP-type. The MCAP's are expensive, but still best value for money and SOUND. Here is a link to their website : Mundorf Capacitor. Click MCAP on their website.
Compared to for example Bennic capacitors the price of Mundorf MCAP is approx. 8 times higher. Yes, and they are ten times better too. The difference is that Mundorf MCAP are very fast capacitors with an extreme low loss. Further they have a long life time and they are true audiophile components.

The loudspeaker cloth ?
It is an integrated sock, but can be removed and put on again, if something ever should go wrong inside the speaker. The textile is very transparent and very strong too. If the sun is shining you can easy see the units. The purpose of the sock is to give the loudspeaker a flat and aesthetic surface. The sock is manufactured by a professional woman, who is doing things like this for a living to the worlds most famous brand regarding AV designs. It took one year to develop this integrated sock before the quality did reach the level of long life time. The sock is already antistatic sealed and it is very easy to clean after using the speakers in some months, use the dust remover, which is found in the shipping box. It is really true, when I am claiming it is not possible to measure or hear any difference with or without loudspeaker cloth. If you don't believe me, then try to remove the sock and check if you can hear (or measure) any differences.
If you ever do scratch or damage the sock you can change it and the surface of loudspeaker is as new. This is one of the big advantages too.

What is the difference between the 9700 and the REVELATOR 9900 ?
May be confidential information, but it is the front plate ONLY. Behind the front plate of the 9900 there is a 9700, 100% equal. The crossover frequency can not be as low as the 9700, when using REVELATOR because of the physical size, the height of the hole in the REVELATOR front plate, the wave length. I did use the REVELATOR in the beginning, but did not succeed the low crossover point. I still have a pair, if anyone is interested, but I would suggest a higher crossover frequency.

Why does the 9700 used in the REALITY speakers not sound like any other tweeters like in the 9x00 family ?
Because a new front plate is used. It is only 2mm thick WITHOUT compression, but this neoprene rubber front plate do avoid diffractions. The surface of the cabinet becomes 100% blank without any mechanical bumps to destroy the sound. The tweeter is positioned 10mm more to the rear than normal mounting. All the things gives this tweeter a HUGE advantage. The hole in this front plate did cost 200 attempts and measurements before it was optimal.

The 9700 with the neoprene diffraction front plate is the most detailed tweeter I have heard.

The special made bass unit :
The speaker bass unit has been customized in corporation with a Scan Speak engineer. I am pretty sure you can't find anyone on earth knowing more regarding the Scan Speak units than engineer who did it. I am living only a few miles from Scan Speak. Sorry, but I was forced to re-write this chapter !!

I will only say that:
1. It can go deeper than any other 6.75" driver units.
2. It has the fastest impulse response of a 6.75" driver unit.
3. It has the most linear frequency response of a 6.75" driver unit.
4. In my opinion the best ever made 6.75" driver unit.

We did three attempts to get the highest performance ever made by a 6.75" unit, three series using different materials and coils and more. It took us 6 month to find this result.

What and which parts is this unit made of ?
Yes !!

Can I tell the Thiele Small parameters ?
Yes !!

Port tuning:
The speakers are ported, the 3D is tuned to 34Hz and the Subs are tuned to 28Hz.
The resonance frequency of the woofer is as low as 22Hz baffled, 24 Hz free air.

You can calculate backward and find out how big an ordinary square box should be or instead use a correct dampened tetrahedron cabinet which fits the Thiele Small parameters !

The difference between the REALITY S and the REALITY 3D is the crossover :
The 3D has a low crossover point and is impedance linear without any bumps in the impedance of the bass area, even if it is a vented speaker. REALITY S is using an ordinary 2.8kHz crossover. Both has been listening tested and measured of course.

Who did make the interior design :
I did get that idea after analyzing how a good loudspeaker cabinet should be. The design has been reviewed by a professional architect and an industrial designer and many audiophiles have performed listening tests, some who really knows what this is all about: Music and acoustic with soul. I want the product design to show the function of the form and to be mimimalist too. A good loudspeaker can't be invisible, not yet.

My background :
Many loudspeaker companies are either furniture manufacturer (including many brand names), who don't know much about the technical inside the loudspeakers or they are making large scale production where they can't afford to use expensive components because of their shareholders or they are marketing business men. Only a few manufacturers are great acoustic and electronic engineers, but their prices are normally too high (I really do understand why, they are forced to do it).

I do own the company, but I don't manufacturer furniture's or cabinets, I let other do it.
Since I was a boy I did build my own loudspeakers and audio equipment (or did modify it), I still do. I am 37 years old, I have a wife, we have a girl and we do expect one more child this fall. I am electronic engineer, who flew out of the school and did finish my education already in 1986. The next 10 years I were employed by the biggest manufacturer of audio and video equipment in Denmark (you may guess who) in their research and development department. I did develop (in corporation with other engineers) a lot of what you can see in the shops today (consumer products, audiophile products to my self only). Right after saying goodbye I did create my own company. The first two years I did make some jobs regarding development of phone exchanges, but went self employed full time for more than 3 years ago. Since then I have been working on the speakers, but did do some consultations for other companies in the start. As you may know I am not a business or marketing man who is only trying to get some money, but would like you to enjoy the very affordable products. My goal is not to be a big manufacturer and to do a lot of money, but to let the company develop new and innovative audiophile products which is different from all the other products you can buy.
